After nearly four years, we are winding down the Policy Leadership Initiative.
The initiative emerged from a tension I had experienced over more than a decade working on digital policy in Brussels: those most impacted by tech-facilitated harms are too often absent from the rooms where decisions are made.
It's down to Monterey, California to roll our road-tested social media slideware and interactive workshop format for The California Conference of Local Health Department Nutritionists (CCLHDN).
The event convenes professional nutritionists from each local health department in California. And a primary topic this year is how to use social media to advance local issues.
I am excited to say we had an adventurous week in Modesto, Fresno, and Visalia on a 3 day road trip. We had great food, talked to awesome people, and even finished our first Central Valley eAdvocacy Training in Fresno! There were 13 different organizations from Fresno and Visalia represented at the training. We had great local support from CMC and BGClubFC.

In honor of Cesar Chavez Day, I wanted to reflect on using technology for social change, especially since our 1st Central Valley training is coming up on April 6 in Fresno, "Starting your Nonprofit on Social Media."
Yesterday, we continued the Central Valley eAdvocacy program with an awesome road trip down the 99 South to Fresno in the Aspiration roadie van. We had the opportunity to meet up with various organizations doing incredible work throughout the Valley including Fresno Barrios Unidos, the Center for Multicultural Cooperation and the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program. It was exciting to meet people and learn more about how we can best serve the online needs of the Valley.
